In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Texas Trust Credit Union surprised unsuspecting customers at a local gas station in Grand Prairie, TX, near the Texas Trust Credit Union Theatre, by giving away free gas. Texas Trust Credit Union, known for its deep roots in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, launched its very first “Random Acts of Kindness Day” with a surprise that left many speechless: free gas for everyone who pulled up to the pump. But this wasn’t just a corporate giveaway—it was personal. Patrons saw the Texas Trust Executive team rolling up their sleeves to personally pump gas for delighted customers.
One of the first in line was Tonya, a Grand Prairie resident who arrived at 5 a.m. to ensure she didn’t miss the opportunity. A mother of five, grandmother of 26, and soon-to-be great-grandmother, Tonya has been out of work since December due to a back injury she sustained while working for the railroad. Despite her challenges, she continues to raise her grandson, a bright student on the A/B honor roll. Her story moved everyone she spoke to, a reminder of the quiet strength carried by so many in the community.
Then there was Joe, a Texas Trust member for 28 years, who shared a deeply personal story. His son had recently fallen on hard times, and Joe had been scraping together every dollar to support him—often leaving just enough to get gas for the long drives to visit a recovery facility where his son is currently staying. After hearing his story, CEO Jim Minge did more than fill his tank. He handed Joe $300 in cash, a gesture that brought tears to Joe’s eyes and underscored the day’s true purpose.
“We believe in supporting our community and making a positive impact in people's lives,” said Ron Smith, Chief Growth Officer at Texas Trust. “This gas giveaway is just one way we can show our appreciation and provide a helping hand to those who need it.”
The event was more than a giveaway—it was a moment of connection. Strangers shared stories, laughter, and even a few tears. For many, it was a reminder that kindness still exists in the world, and that sometimes, the smallest gestures can make the biggest difference.
As the sun rose higher over Grand Prairie, the gas station buzzed with gratitude and goodwill. Texas Trust Credit Union’s Random Acts of Kindness Day had done more than fill gas tanks—it had filled hearts.
