We recently had the chance to sit down with Jordan Cunningham, Sr Public Relations Specialist to discuss what "financial wellbeing" means and how it plays a major role in our everyday lives.
Defining and Understanding Financial Wellbeing
How would you define “financial wellbeing”? What are its key components?
Financial wellbeing means having control over your day-to-day finances and knowing where your dollars are going. But beyond that, the ability to absorb financial shocks, being on track to meet your financial goals, and having the freedom to make choices that allow you to enjoy life. Key components would be things like budgeting, savings, credit management, and just overall financial confidence.
Exploring the Scope and Impact of Financial Wellbeing
What are the potential consequences of poor financial wellbeing, both for individuals and for society as a whole?
When people lack financial wellbeing, they often experience stress, anxiety, and limited access to opportunities. This can lead to challenges in housing, health, education, and employment. At a broader level, communities and economies are impacted by higher debt levels, lower productivity, and increased reliance on social services.
In what ways can financial wellbeing influence major life decisions and opportunities?
Financial wellbeing influences decisions such as where to live, whether to pursue higher education, when to start a family, or how to prepare for retirement. With stronger financial wellbeing, people can make these decisions confidently rather than reactively.
