ARLINGTON, Texas – August 7, 2025 – The Texas Trust Gives Foundation has awarded more than $55,000 in community impact grants to help parents reduce the cost of sending their children back to school.
According to the National Retail Federation’s annual back-to-school survey, families will spend around $855 per child in elementary through high school for clothing, shoes, school supplies, and technology.
Seven North Texas school districts received grants from the foundation, along with districts serving Athens and San Angelo. Grants range from $1,500 to $10,000 per district.
“Going back to school should be a fun and exciting time, not something that creates a financial burden on families,” said Washima Huq, Executive Director of the Texas Trust Gives Foundation. “Through our grants we are able to help families reduce the expense associated with sending their children back to school.”
Most of the districts will use the grant money to provide school supplies that will be handed out during back-to-school events. Texas Trust had a band of volunteers at district events in Mansfield, Arlington, Lewisville, and San Angelo to support the districts and directly interact with the families being helped by the foundation.
While the purchase of school supplies is the most popular use of the Texas Trust Gives community impact grants, some districts, such as Mansfield ISD, use the grant to purchase new shoes that are handed out at the district’s back-to-school bash
Arlington ISD will provide backpacks stuffed with school supplies to economically disadvantaged students.
Athens ISD has a feed the student backpack program, which provides nutritious food for the weekend for disadvantaged students.
Teachers at Cedar Hill ISD will use classroom grants to purchase necessary supplies.
At DeSoto ISD, the grant will establish a districtwide uniform closet to ensure students have the required clothing.
In the second year of grant funding for Grand Prairie ISD, the district will support 1,800 families through its community hub, which provides basic school supplies as well as clothing and nutritious food.
The HEB ISD received funding to support homeless and economically disadvantaged students, as well as provide uniforms for students in its Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
Lewisville ISD will provide immunizations and school supplies for its back-to-school event.
In San Angelo, students in need will receive backpacks funded by the grant.
The Texas Trust Gives Foundation also offers annual grants to support classroom and educational initiatives.
